How to combine scans into one PDF
When document pages are saved as separate photographs or scans, it is more convenient to send them as one PDF. First, determine what files you have: images or ready-made PDFs. The choice of tool depends on this.
What to prepare
Collect the pages you need in one folder. Check that the text is legible, that edges of the document are not lost, and that each page is rotated correctly. If the recipient has specified file size or paper size restrictions, consider them before creating the document.
Procedure
Open "Images to PDF"
This option is suitable for photos and scans in JPG, PNG and other formats from the list on the tool page. If the pages are already in PDF, use the method below - merging the finished PDFs.
Add images and check the order
Select all the required files. Arrange them in reading order: the first page of the document, the second, and so on. The sequence in the list determines the order of the pages of the future PDF.
Customize your pages
In the "Paper" field, select, for example, A4 - the size of a regular sheet for printing. Portrait orientation is suitable for vertical scans, landscape orientation is suitable for wide ones. “Margins, pt” - the distance from the picture to the edges of the sheet. 72 points are approximately equal to 2.54 cm.
Save the entire image
In the Fit option, select Fit Entirely. The Fill with Crop mode can trim edges if the proportions do not match. For documents, it is especially important to preserve all text and edge marks.
Create a PDF and download the result
Start creating the document, then click "Download". Open the downloaded PDF and go through all the pages: check the sequence, orientation and readability of small text.
Tool Options
Some fields appear after selecting a mode. The default settings are shown here; They are subject to change on the website.
- Paper
Sheet size, for example A4. If you have an option for your own sizes, you can set them separately.
- Orientation
Portrait - the sheet is taller than wider. Landscape - wider than tall.
- Fields, Fri
Distance from the edge of the page in points. 72 points are approximately equal to 2.54 cm.
- Fit in
Fit the entire picture onto the sheet or fill the space completely by trimming the edges.
If scans are already saved as PDF
Open "Merge PDF" and add documents. Check the order of files and pages in the preview. Launch the merge and download the shared document.
If some of the pages are pictures, first assemble them with the Images to PDF tool. The new PDF can then be merged with others. The original files will remain with you.
What to check before shipping
Make sure there are no extra or duplicate pages in the document. Check the final file size: Creating a PDF alone does not guarantee that your photos will be smaller in size.
If the recipient needs a small file, try shrinking images that are too large before creating the PDF, or use the Compress PDF tool. A server is used to compress the PDF; processing conditions are shown before starting.
Frequently asked questions
Where do scans go when creating and merging a PDF?
Both tools work on your device, right in your browser. No files are sent to the server for these operations.
What should I do if the text on the scan is unclear?
Creating a PDF does not restore lost details. It is better to reshoot or rescan the page and check it before adding it to the document.
