How to merge CSV files by column names
Combine several CSV tables into one by matching columns by their names.
What to prepare
You can add: CSV, TSV. The allowed size and number of files are indicated on the tool page.
Procedure
Add files
Add a CSV or TSV with the column names on the first row. Select files with the same separator and appropriate encoding. Names within the same file should not be repeated.
Select settings
Select a separator and check the order of the files. Leave cell protection from formulas turned on if the data will be opened in the table editor.
Click the button
Read the terms of processing and confirm your consent. Click "Merge CSV" and wait until it's ready. If an error appears, read the message and check the file, text, or settings.
Save and check
Download the generic CSV and JSON report. Check the number of rows, new and missing columns. Blank cells may appear where values are missing.
Tool Options
Some fields appear after selecting a mode. The default settings are shown here; They are subject to change on the website.
- Separator
A character between columns, such as a comma or semicolon. Select the one used in the file.
- Protect cells from formulas
Add an apostrophe before values, which the editor can run as a formula. So they will remain text.
Good to know
Columns are connected by exact names, even if they are located differently in the files. Formula protection can add an apostrophe before the value to prevent the editor from executing it as a formula.
