How to compare two versions of text
Find out what words or lines have been added, removed, or changed.
What to prepare
Open the tool using the button above and paste the text. There are two fields for comparison: old and new version.
Procedure
Prepare your text
Paste the original and new text into the two fields. Use the same document fragments to make changes clearer.
Select settings
Choose to compare by string or by word. If capital letters, small letters or spaces are not important, enable the appropriate checkboxes.
Click the button
Click “Compare texts” and wait until it’s ready. If an error appears, read the message and check the file, text, or settings.
Save and check
In the report, “+” means addition, “−” means deletion. Check the changed passages against both versions of the text. If necessary, download the report.
Tool Options
Some fields appear after selecting a mode. The default settings are shown here; They are subject to change on the website.
- Ignore case
Do not consider large and small letters a difference.
- Ignore spaces
Ignore differences in whitespace and indentation when comparing.
- Comparison
Show differences by line or by individual words.
Good to know
If you don't account for whitespace, changes to indentation may not make it into the report. To check the design, leave this checkbox unchecked.
