How to count characters and words in text
Before publishing an ad, description or message, it is useful to check the length of the text. The counter shows four indicators: characters, characters without spaces, words and lines. Choose the one that is needed according to the conditions of the site or task.

What to prepare
Prepare the final text: with a title, links and line breaks, if they are within the limit. Do not add service notes that will not be published. Open the Text Counter tool.
Procedure
Paste text into the field
Add it to the Source Text field. Results are updated automatically as you type. There is no need to press a separate button to start counting.
Select the required indicator
“Characters” counts characters along with spaces and line breaks. “No Spaces” does not count spaces, Tab indents, or hyphens. “Words” counts individual groups of letters and numbers. “Lines” counts lines separated by breaks in the text itself.
Check the result using a simple example
The text "Hello World" without quotes and without line breaks contains 10 characters, 9 characters without spaces, 2 words and 1 line. An example helps to see the difference between the two character indicators.
Edit the text to fit the limit
If the volume is too large, remove repetitions and shorten the wording. After the changes, look at the indicators again. Check exactly the version of the text that you are going to insert onto the site.
Save statistics if needed
Click “Download statistics” to prepare a file with indicators. In the resulting result, click “Download”. This is convenient for passing statistics to the editor or comparing different versions. The text itself can be copied from the source field.

Why one emoticon can be considered several characters
For a computer, some visible characters consist of several parts. For example, a complex emoticon or a letter with a separately recorded accent. Therefore, the number of characters is sometimes greater than the number of characters you see.
Under the field there is an inscription “UTF-16 units” - this is another way of counting the internal text record. It may differ from the "Symbols" card. If you send text to a site with a length limit, follow the rules of that site.
Why did the number of rows change?
Breaks in the text itself create new lines. Automatically wrapping a long line across the width of the field is only a display method and does not add a new line to the source data.
The extra carry at the end also affects the result. If the exact number of lines is important, check the beginning and end of the copied text.
Frequently asked questions
Is the text transmitted to the server?
No. The calculation is done in the browser; the entered text for this operation is not sent to the server.
Why does another service show a different number of words?
Different sites have different counting rules. Here, groups of letters and numbers are considered words, and a hyphen or apostrophe within a word does not break it into two.
