How to bring identical letters to one entry and show hidden characters

Correct differences in the internal notation of similar letters and look for invisible signs in the text.

Unicode normalization: what to add → processing → what happens (TXT).

What to prepare

Open the tool using the button above and paste the text.

Procedure

  1. Prepare your text

Insert text that looks the same but compares differently. For example, a letter with an accent may be stored as one character or as a letter and a separate accent. Save a copy.

  2. Select settings

If you're not sure which form to choose, start with NFC: it connects a letter and a separate accent mark where possible. NFD does the opposite. NFKC and NFKD also make it easier to write some special characters. To see hidden signs, turn them on.

  3. Click the button

Click "Normalize Unicode" and wait until it's ready. If an error appears, read the message and check the file, text, or settings.

  4. Save and check

Click “Download” on the finished result; if there is a copy button, you can copy the text. Compare the text before and after. Hidden characters are shown with symbols like [U+00A0]. If you included this display for testing purposes only, do not include such symbols in your final text.

Tool Options

Some fields appear after selecting a mode. The default settings are shown here; They are subject to change on the website.

Unicode form

How to bring the internal notation of letters to the same form. Start with NFC if there are no special requirements. Details of other options are in the steps above.

Default: NFC - composite

You can choose: NFC - composite NFD - unfolded NFKC - compatible composite NFKD - compatible unfolded

Show invisible characters

Replace hidden characters with visible characters like [U+00A0] so they can be seen.

Default: Off

Example

In NFC mode, the letter e and the separate accent mark become one letter é.

Was

é

It became

é

Good to know

NFKC and NFKD may change the appearance of special characters, so be sure to check the result. Showing hidden characters replaces them with visible characters rather than simply removing them.
